Gender Diversity In The Workplace
Created By: Trevor Robinson
At bottom every man knows well enough that he is a unique being, only once on this earth; and by no extraordinary chance will such a marvelously picturesque piece of diversity in unity as he is, ever be put together a second time.

Causes
The reason why men are typically not interested into going into nursing is because of sterotypes, or as perceptions are influenced or a self-fulfilling prophecy. (Gender Diverstiy and Nurse-Physician Relationships, Ulrich Beth). The Nursing profession was believed to be a only female career approximately one hundred years ago. "Diversity is a topic frequently discussed in nursing administrative circles. Administrators recognize that the profession must reflect a variety of ethnic, racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds to provide care to the wide diversity of our patients." (Sullivan, Eleanor, Journal of Professional Nursing, Page 253-254)
Effects
There are many affects that gender diversity in the workplace can lead to. One example is how Meagan Goley, a nursing student at Baker College said "I do not think that guys are afraid to be in a nursing program, but more of they don't like the fact that that most of the nursing classes consists of mostly female students. They also aren't to fond on the fact that when they will enter the workplace, not many men are in the nursing profession." (Goley 1) Another affect male students in the nursing field is that the students typically wont enjoy their career once they started it. "Male nurses have a significantly lower job satisfaction and leave the profession at twice the rate of female nurses. This is likely due to to many factors that have risen due to the female dominance of the occupation." (Madden Jessica 128-130)
Solutions & Recommendations
"People just need to be aware of the fact that nursing isn't just for girls. I personally think that men are better than women in some areas of nursing such as lifting patients." (Goley 2) "To get men and other minority groups into nursing, schools and workplace faculty members need to reach out to students and make them aware of the fact that anyone can go into nursing and love it the way I do!" (Goley 2)
