85% of the 321 companies with more than $500 million in revenue surveyed agreed or strongly agreed that diversity is a key in driving innovation in the workplace (Tencer 1).
Diversity in the workplace is important because it increases the productivity of an organization by bringing in people of different ethnicities, gender, and personalities. There are laws in place to help insure that this happens.
Gender Diversity
Male nurses represent just a small fraction of the nursing workforce in the United States. Although recruiting more men into nursing is viewed as a way to adress the critical shortage of nurses, significant profressional barriers deter male entry into the profession. Having the different genders in the workplace is key to running a successful workplace.
Personality Diversity
Having different personalities in the workplace is a very important thing to have because it creates a supportive environment where certain people have certain strengths. These strengths come together, building a highly productive and adapt company.
Ethnic Diversity
In this melting pot of a country our people show ethnic diversity but our workforce management still represents the majority. In order for our workplaces to be more productive they must increase their ethnic diversity. For various causes the diversity of people in workforce's are lower than who America really is. This segregation effects the productivity of workplaces in many ways. However after much research business owners have found different ways to increase the workplace diversity.
Diversity Laws
Many qualified individuals are not being hired even though they have the qualifications. There have been laws set in place to have businesses hire people no matter their race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. With these laws in place it helps to create a more diverse workplace and in turn a more diverse workplace produces higher productivity.
